Zavedos

Zavedos is an antitumor antibiotic produced in Italy by the companies Carlo Erba Pharmatalia, Pharmacia and Pharmacia and Upjohn.

The international name of the drug is Idarubicin. Zavedos is available in the form of lyophilisate for injection, capsules and powder for injection solution.

The main active ingredient of Zavedos is Idarubicin.

Indications for use:

  1. Acute myeloid leukemia
  2. Lymphoma
  3. Lung and breast cancer (as an additional remedy)

Contraindications:

  1. Hypersensitivity to the drug or other anthracyclines
  2. Liver and kidney dysfunction
  3. Heart diseases
  4. Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia
  5. Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Side effects:

  1. Hematopoietic inhibition, cardiotoxicity
  2. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  3. Hyperuricemia, nephropathy
  4. Infections, fever, alopecia
  5. Tissue necrosis at the injection site

Zavedos should be used with caution in case of bone marrow diseases, infections and disorders of uric acid excretion. Regular monitoring of the condition of the blood, heart, liver and kidneys is required.
