How to get rid of black circles under eyes

Why do we hate dark circles under our eyes so much? This gives a pale and unhealthy appearance to the face as a whole, and is a sign of lack of sleep and some health problems. Some people inherit bruises as a gift as an individual trait, while others acquire them due to chronic fatigue. However, modern society is confident that a beautiful woman does not have bruises under her eyes. Therefore, it is necessary to fight circles. For my own pleasure, health and beauty.

Origins of the problem

The skin of the eyelids and the area around the eyes is very thin and sensitive, so it is the first to react to any stress and discomfort. But returning to an ideal state is much more difficult for her. Bruises and circles under the eyes appear due to:

  1. hereditary predisposition, infectious diseases of the eyes and eyelids (styes), sinus diseases (runny nose, etc.), injuries to microvessels near the eyes, kidney problems, stress and lack of sleep, fatigue.

In each case, you need to solve the main problem in order to achieve an impressive result. It will be difficult to ignore the cosmetic side of the issue. It will have to be dealt with simultaneously with the treatment prescribed by a specialist.

What to do?

Cosmetologists and advertisers know about women’s desire to get rid of bruises, so they offer a lot of options.

Eye care cream

  1. If the problem is relevant to you, choose products labeled “for dark circles.” They contain reflective particles, which partially solve the problem. It is better if your daily eyelid skin care includes UV protection, because sensitive skin can also develop pigmentation due to solar activity. Plant extracts of daisies, licorice, arbutin, and vitamin C will be beneficial to your skin. Caffeine will also be “fashionable.” All of them inhibit the production of their own melanin, which gives “color”.

Metal "rollers"

Manufacturers advertise eyelid cream packaging with a metal or roller applicator, which has a slight cooling effect. Such attachments have some useful benefits, because our grandmothers often used chilled spoons to eliminate dark circles, applying cool metal to their eyelids.

Retinol and retinoid cream

Vitamin A is an effective anti-aging agent that improves microcirculation and strengthens the walls of blood vessels, slightly brightening the skin around the eyes.

There is a nuance in its use: it is more suitable for night care, since it can pigment in the sun. Combine only with SPF protection!

High-quality and effective makeup remover and cleansing products

Oil, two-phase lotions containing oil remove makeup and mascara more gently. This allows you to remove decorative cosmetics from the eyes in a few movements, without injuring or stretching sensitive skin. It is this factor that needs to be taken into account when choosing a makeup remover - the quality and gentleness of cleansing.

Cold water and ice cubes

  1. Beauties use parsley, dill, cornflower petals and more frozen in ice cubes. The easiest way is washing with cold water, which allows the skin to quickly recover after a restless night or short sleep. Simple ice cubes also have a tonic effect. Gently massage the skin around the eyes (literally 2-3 movements) along circular lines.

Do not steam!

Bruising and swelling may become worse from exposure to heat. When you have a predisposition to the “panda” effect, you should refuse cosmetic steaming, reduce the time in the steam room and sauna, or completely abandon hot water procedures.

Good and fresh cosmetics

Not necessarily branded and expensive. Cosmetics with an unexpired shelf life that applies well and does not fall off or smudge (eye shadow, mascara, pencil, liner). Old mascara and crumbling eye shadow can enhance natural circles and cause allergies and eye infections.

Secrets of makeup artists

  1. Special foundations, luminizers and highlighters will help hide bruises. If this is not enough, then you can use shimmering shadows of a “natural” color. For the effect to be correct, you need to use a color slightly darker than your natural skin tone. The quality of cosmetics is also important: shadows should not roll off.

Grandma's secrets

The problem of dark circles has been known for a long time. How else did they cope with it when there was much less cosmetics? They made compresses. In addition to the options described above, the following are also used:

  1. Cucumber masks. Mugs of fresh cucumber are placed on closed eyes for 15 minutes. Tea bags (used or soaked), compresses from tea leaves on the eyes. Active substances, such as tannin, have astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. Grated potatoes have a lightening effect. It is often included in whitening masks. For a mask on the skin around the eyes, you can grate or grind a small fresh potato in a blender, put the pulp in a gauze and place it on closed eyelids. Rest for 20-30 minutes, lying down with a potato compress. Decoctions of parsley and dill. Baths and compresses based on a decoction of these herbs were often used to lighten the skin. Clean fresh and washed mint leaves as a compress.

The choice of method is individual. Try doing it twice a week until the effect is achieved, and then you can use it as a prophylactic.

Breathe deeply!

Often, lack of oxygen and stress become the source of many appearance problems. In this case, there won’t be many recommendations, but they are very pleasant and useful:

  1. Take a walk in the fresh air. A short walk before bed will refresh you, get rid of unpleasant thoughts, and strengthen family relationships. Choose parks and alleys close to your home so that the air is at least a little fresh. Ventilate the room before going to bed. For the nighttime recovery process to be truly effective, fresh air during sleep will be very helpful. No smoking! Smoking (including passive smoking) disrupts skin respiration and slows down cellular metabolism. Want to get rid of dark circles? You know what to do! Relax and treat yourself to a spa, find a reason to relax and unwind. At the same time, try making one of the eye masks. And go to bed early. Every day! It is very important.

Not everything is so fast

Unlike cosmetics, creams, cold applications do not give a rapid effect, although you will notice the improved condition of the skin of the eyelids quite quickly.

And this is what they don’t like to talk about in advertising: you can’t get rid of bruises quickly.

Beauty requires certain sacrifices and efforts, but it is often a matter of time and consistency, rather than physical sensations. Do you want to be fresh and radiant? Take matters into your own hands!

How often have you encountered the unpleasant phenomenon of dark circles appearing under your eyes?

Usually, women try to disguise this defect with cosmetics as quickly as possible and do not really think about the cause of its appearance. But the appearance of this symptom may indicate not only overwork or lack of sleep, but also disruptions in the functioning of internal organs and body systems.

When should you sound the alarm and what diseases can dark circles under the eyes in women warn of?

Why do dark circles appear under the eyes?

The skin around the eyes is very thin, sensitive and delicate. The collagen fibers in it are arranged in a mesh pattern, and this contributes to its increased extensibility. Due to facial activity, this area of the face is constantly in motion and is prone to swelling. Immediately under the skin there are blood vessels that are translucent due to the small thickness of the skin and the accumulation of blood in them with an insufficient amount of oxygen.

As a result, dark circles appear under the eyes. This effect is further enhanced by the fact that the eyes are located in the area of the orbital sockets and the manifestation of such shadows is enhanced. To get rid of dark circles under the eyes, it is necessary to find out the reason for their appearance, since the methods for eliminating them depend on this.

How to determine the cause by the color of dark circles

Experts testify that the shade of the circles can presumably diagnose the disease. Circles under the eyes, depending on the cause, are blue, brown, red, yellow.

Blue color
  1. disruption of the digestive system;
  2. disruptions in the urinary system;
  3. disruption of the functioning of the heart and blood circulation;
  4. fatigue;
  5. staying near the computer, prolonged use of gadgets;
  6. insomnia;
  7. alcohol and smoking.
Yellowish circles
  1. an increase in the amount of bilirubin due to impaired functioning of the liver and gallbladder;
  2. consumption of large quantities of foods containing yellow coloring substances (carrots), while the pupils of the eyes remain clear and health remains normal;
  3. genetic predisposition;
  4. unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, alcohol abuse;
  5. unbalanced diet;
  6. transferred stressful conditions.
Red tint
  1. kidney disease (circles are associated with swelling);
  2. allergic manifestations;
  3. lack of exposure to fresh air;
  4. unhealthy lifestyle, smoking, alcohol abuse;
  5. problems with the brain (hemorrhage, meningitis);
  6. sensitive skin;
  7. suffered stressful conditions;
  8. the presence of helminths in the body;
  9. inflammatory processes of the eyes.
If the circles are brown
  1. improper daily routine: fatigue, lack of sleep;
  2. unbalanced diet;
  3. side effects of certain medications;
  4. alcohol abuse, smoking;
  5. spending a long time at the computer and using gadgets;
  6. heredity;
  7. hormonal imbalance;
  8. allergic reaction to cosmetics;
  9. presence of liver and gallbladder diseases;
  10. disorders of the urinary and digestive systems;
  11. endocrine imbalance, diabetes;
  12. dysfunction of the circulatory system, thick blood;
  13. lack of vitamins and microelements.

Physiological reasons

There are many more reasons for dark circles that are not associated with a pathological condition of the body. Many factors have a negative impact on the skin, especially on such sensitive skin as under the eyes.

  1. State of mind. General depression, chronic depression, attacks of causeless anxiety do not have the best effect on appearance.
  2. Physiological characteristics of the body. Mainly heredity. Remember how things are with your closest relatives. Age also matters - the skin of the eyelids and the tissue underneath gradually become thinner, “showing” capillaries.
  3. Diet. Frequent consumption of fried, smoked, spicy and salty foods, late tea drinking, insufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals - all this negatively affects the overall health and appearance of the skin. Toxins that accumulate in the blood and tissues of the body can cause dark circles under the eyes. It is possible to get rid of such external manifestations of poor nutrition by revising the daily menu and replenishing the microelements and minerals missing in the body. To do this, you may need to consult a doctor or nutritionist.
  4. Lifestyle . Insufficient sleep duration has a very negative effect on the condition of the skin of the eyelids. Most people need 7–8 hours every day, but there are also people whose norm is significantly less or more. You only need to focus on your own body in this matter. Sleeping conditions are also important - lack of light, noise, room temperature, comfort of furniture, bedding, and so on. It is also important to be outdoors as often as possible. It is advisable to combine this with physical activity, but simple walking at an average pace is also suitable. And at night it is very useful to ventilate the bedroom.
  5. Work and leisure. Dark grayish-brown circles are most obvious in the late afternoon. Regular overwork, chronic stress, general fatigue, computer-related work, and watching TV provoke stagnation of blood in the capillaries. Excess adrenaline in it provokes vasoconstriction. If your job requires you to strain your eyes all the time, the appearance of dark circles is almost inevitable.
  6. Smoking and alcohol. Substances found in tobacco smoke and alcohol contribute to chronic intoxication of the body and have a destructive effect on all tissues. The skin of drinkers and smokers ages faster and is more susceptible to inflammation and swelling. Over time, it becomes impossible to get rid of dark circles under the eyes caused by constant intoxication. Only quitting smoking and frequent drinking can restore the beauty of your skin and eyes.
  7. Incorrect care. The eyelids are extremely sensitive and immediately respond to any “external aggression”. This could be hot and cold water, low-quality cosmetics, or incorrect application. Use only creams and cleansers intended for eyelids. Apply them with light pats of your fingers, without rubbing or stretching the skin. Leaving makeup on overnight is a strict taboo.

The most common cause of dark circles under the eyes is overwork and chronic lack of sleep. Lack of sleep makes the skin pale and dull, causing blood vessels to become more visible and purple shadows to appear under the eyes. Improper care (or lack of care) for the area around the eyes, poorly selected cosmetics, and the habit of rubbing your eyes with your hands also contribute to the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

Possible diseases

If all physiological causes are excluded, circles under the eyes indicate the presence of some disease. They must be accompanied by certain symptoms.

We list the possible diseases that cause circles under the eyes in women:

  1. Kidney diseases. The formation of circles is accompanied by the appearance of swelling and bags. Circles can be an indicator of infectious and non-infectious kidney damage. The disease is characterized by impaired renal function and fluid retention in the body. Since the kidneys remove toxins, metabolic products, and medications from the body, intoxication occurs when their functioning is disrupted. Most often, bags and dark spots appear in the morning.
  2. Liver dysfunction. Hyperpigmentation of the skin is observed, and it is most pronounced around the eyes. When an organ malfunctions, toxic substances accumulate and become intoxicated. Violations lead to an increase in the volume of bilirubin. The circles acquire an icteric tint, which depends on the degree of liver damage. Severe liver damage leads to jaundice throughout the face.
  3. Allergy. The circles can be caused by various allergens. In addition to circles, itching, redness, and swelling are possible. With constant contact with the allergen, circles are constantly observed as a symptom of atopic dermatitis.
  4. Anemia is a decrease in hemoglobin levels. B vitamins are poorly absorbed and there is a lack of iron. It often occurs in women during pregnancy, but with an improved diet and the use of appropriate medications, the indicators are restored to normal. With anemia, dark circles are permanent and do not go away after rest. The condition is accompanied by dizziness and shortness of breath. The skin turns pale, the eyes become sunken. Due to a decrease in the volume of oxygen supplied to organs and tissues, oxygen starvation is diagnosed.
  5. Diabetes. There is an increase in glucose levels in the blood due to an insufficient amount of insulin, or it is produced in an increased volume, but the tissues have an increased sensitivity to it. In such a situation, tissue nutrition is disrupted, which causes the formation of dark circles.
  6. Impaired blood circulation functions. Circles are especially common in chronic disorders. The body experiences venous stagnation (slow movement through the veins). Such signs characterize vegetative-vascular dystonia. This disease is a consequence of stressful shocks and pathological fatigue. There are disruptions in the functioning of the nervous system and deviations from the norm in the functioning of the heart.
  7. Inflammatory processes. Circles occur with conjunctivitis, blepharitis, which occurs with swelling of the eyelids, redness, and itching.
  8. Infection with worms. Only consultation with a specialist will help to establish the cause of the occurrence with accuracy.

Dark circles under the eyes can appear due to certain infectious inflammatory processes (for example, sinusitis), headaches, diseases of the upper teeth and other diseases. It is possible to identify the true cause of their appearance only after consulting a doctor and carrying out the examination recommended by him. After diagnosis, treatment of the underlying disease is necessary, getting rid of which will also help eliminate dark circles under the eyes.

Diagnostics

If dark circles appear under the eyes, you should not try to disguise them under a thick layer of decorative cosmetics.

This will not solve the problem, but will only worsen the cosmetic defect. The first step towards eliminating dark circles under the eyes should be to find out the reasons for their occurrence. If lifestyle changes have not led to an improvement in the condition of the skin in the periorbital area, you should consult a therapist (gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, allergist - if you associate the appearance of dark circles under the eyes with certain health problems).

From laboratory examinations, it is advisable to perform a general and biochemical blood test, a general urine test, a spectral blood test for microelements, a study of thyroid hormones, a stool test for helminth eggs and Giardia. Additional instrumental studies may include an electrocardiogram, ultrasound of the abdominal organs, kidneys and retroperitoneal space.

If an in-depth examination did not reveal any health problems, then, most likely, dark circles under the eyes are a cosmetic defect that requires contacting a dermatocosmetologist.

I need good sleep to avoid dark circles. To care for the area around the eyes, I use Vegetable Beauty Serum with a phyto-complex, it just reduces puffiness and makes darkening around the eyes lighter

In a person's life, much depends on appearance. Everyone wants to look attractive and have a healthy face. When the eyes are framed by black circles, the appearance becomes tired, exhausted, and painful. There is a great desire to get rid of this problem and regain the image of a person glowing with energy.

Why do dark circles form under the eyes?

There can be many reasons for the appearance of dark spots around the eyes. It is useless to try to hide such a phenomenon by using cosmetics, because the black circles will not disappear anyway, but will only be disguised for a while. It is important to find out the reason that led to the formation of such spots.

  1. The vast majority of people suffer from chronic sleep deprivation; the modern rhythm of life for many of us does not leave enough time for sleep. Normally, every person should sleep at least eight hours a day. Due to lack of sleep, the complexion changes and looks pale. Blood vessels become clearly visible and dark depressions appear. How to get rid of black circles under the eyes in this case? The effect in the fight against this problem can only be achieved by restoring the correct sleep pattern.
  2. Black, repulsive circles under the eyes are most likely to appear in allergy sufferers. If the owner is aware of such a problem in the body, then one should observe what exactly provokes the formation of dark spots on the face. The reaction can be caused by either a food allergen or a chemical or plant allergen. You may need to undergo tests and make samples to determine the true cause.
  3. The appearance of dark hollows under the eyes may be a signal of the beginning of an exacerbation of diseases of the internal organs. More often, such consequences are observed in people suffering from heart disease or kidney problems. In such cases, you should undergo treatment for a specific chronic disease, the diagnosis should be made by a doctor. The disappearance of black circles will be a consequence of victory over the main ailment.
  4. If a person abuses alcohol and smoking, then you should not be surprised that dark spots around the eyes are the norm with this lifestyle. The body's circulatory system is subject to constant attacks from toxic substances, the vessels are narrowed. Only by giving up bad habits can you expect a positive result and a healthy appearance.
  5. People who are keen on diets and various methods of quickly losing weight need to think about whether it is worth resorting to such drastic methods of changing their body. After a sharp weight loss, the skin of the face becomes thinner and sags. Blood vessels become visible on the eyelids, and the eyes are framed by dark circles. Apart from a plastic surgeon, no one can correct your appearance that has become unattractive. Even the operation performed does not guarantee getting rid of black circles. Therefore, it is worth weighing the risks and consequences before starting quick weight loss methods.
  6. If you work at a computer for a long time, you can expect dark shades to appear in the eye area. This also happens when you are tired from reading for a long time. It is extremely important to take breaks and not overstrain your eyes. Indeed, in addition to appearance, vision can also suffer.
  7. Women who actively use cosmetics for the skin around the eyes should pay attention to the quality and composition of the substances used. Do not overdo it with makeup; cosmetics should be selected only taking into account your skin type. Otherwise, the consequence of illiterate use of such products will be negative changes in the delicate skin of the eyelids.
  8. Nervous work, stressful moments, difficult life situations are undeniable reasons that lead to the appearance of signs of exhaustion and nervousness on the face. Solving existing problems and taking sedatives will gradually lead to the disappearance of black circles under the eyes.
  9. Dark undereyes indicate people suffering from anemia. The body needs to receive iron in sufficient quantities. This gap can be filled by using special medications or carefully following the required diet.
  10. Poor nutrition may also cause problems. Drinking large amounts of liquid before bed leads to dark circles on the face in the morning. Excessive indulgence in spicy and fatty foods also leads to undesirable results. In such situations, there is only one way out - to reconsider your diet.
  11. Yellow circles under the eyes may indicate existing problems with the pancreas, gall bladder and liver. With such diseases, additional symptoms will appear: changes in stool, nausea, pain. In such cases, of course, you need to contact a specialist.
  12. If circles appear under the eyes, it would be a good idea to get tested to see if there are worms in the body. The presence of helminths very often contributes to the appearance of the indicated problem.
  13. Any inflammatory processes in the body can affect the condition of the skin around the eyes. This is quite likely with colds, sinusitis, exacerbations of toothache and others. In this case, the undereyes will disappear on their own after recovery.
  14. And two more reasons why unpleasant darkening under the eyes can darken a person’s life are heredity and old age. If the close arrangement of blood vessels on the face is genetically inherited from relatives, then exclusively cosmetic procedures can slightly improve the situation. In case of age-related problems, the skin is sagging and thinning, you should consult a professional cosmetologist for advice.

The remedies that are popularly recommended are always popular. They are time-tested, easy to prepare and usually give fairly effective results. Even in this case, when black circles under the eyes bother you, traditional healers give advice on how to get rid of them.

Let's look at the simplest and most effective recipes and methods.

  1. Potato. There are several recipes in which potatoes are the main ingredient. The most commonly used is applying raw grated potatoes to the area around the eyes. The second version of the recipe includes a mixture of grated potatoes (two spoons) and sunflower oil (1 spoon), applied to the lower eyelid. Keep the mixture for 20 minutes, after which you need to rinse it off with warm tea or water. To remove dark circles, you can use not only raw vegetables, but also boiled ones. Slices are cut from potatoes boiled in their jackets and applied to the dark spots under the eyes. The potatoes should be warm. A potato mask gives excellent results. Raw grated vegetables, flour and milk are mixed in equal proportions. The mask is applied to closed eyes for 15 or 20 minutes, and after the time has elapsed, the mass must be washed off.
  2. Tea. A popular recipe among people is to apply lotions to the eyelids soaked in warm brewed green or black tea. It is better to infuse brewed tea for a longer time so that the solution becomes strong. It is most convenient to use cotton pads for impregnation. You need to keep the lotions for about two minutes until they retain heat. Then you need to dip the cotton pads in warm tea again and apply. This procedure is repeated several times.
  3. Ice. Cold is a great way to cope with the problem of swollen and darkened eyelids. You need to prepare ice cubes from tea leaves or a decoction of medicinal plants. Twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, the skin around the eyes should be wiped with pieces of ice. To prepare herbal infusions, it is recommended to use sage, parsley, dill, and chamomile.
  4. Cucumber. Even ordinary cucumber slices applied to problem areas for 15 minutes give quick results. It’s even better to grate the vegetable on a coarse grater and apply the resulting pulp to the area near the eyes. Cucumber juice whitens dark spots and relieves swelling. You can make a mask by adding a little sour cream and chopped parsley to chopped cucumber. It is important to keep the mixture for at least a quarter of an hour and carefully remove it after the procedure with warm water.
  5. Parsley. To combat the problem, use compresses made from plant pulp or apply a mask made from a mixture of parsley and sour cream. Like other home remedies, it is recommended to keep it on your eyelids for 15-20 minutes, and then wash it off with warm liquid.
  6. Cottage cheese and milk. Fresh cottage cheese is placed on pieces of gauze and applied to the area under the eyes. It is enough to leave such compresses for 10 minutes. Or try using cotton swabs soaked in milk. The black circles will gradually begin to lighten.
  7. Sage. This plant is incredibly beneficial for the skin of the eyelids. It can be used not only in the form of ice cubes, as lotions, but also used as a decoction as part of various masks. A good method of treatment is contrasting compresses from a herbal decoction. Sage leaves are brewed with boiling water, the decoction is divided into two parts: fairly cold and tolerably hot. Then alternately apply cotton pads soaked in the infusion to the eyelids, starting with a cool compress. It is enough to carry out this procedure every other day for a month. The result will please you, because thanks to the properties of sage, not only will the circles under the eyes disappear, but also a rejuvenating effect will be achieved.
  8. Cabbage. You can apply fresh cabbage leaves to your eyelids; this method is good for quickly eliminating dark hollows under the eyes. Sauerkraut will also save the situation if you leave the mass under the eyes for a short time, for 10 or 15 minutes.

Do not forget that to keep the skin around the eyes in good shape, it is useful to do eye exercises, massage in the eyelid area and contrast washing with water.

Modern science has developed many means that can inhibit the appearance of black circles in the eye area. They contain biologically active substances that protect the skin, nourish it with essential vitamins, and improve blood circulation. Such products are available in the form of creams, serums, and gels. Excellent results in the fight against dark frames of the eyes can be achieved by combining the use of home remedies according to folk recipes and special preparations recommended by a cosmetologist.
