Today, almost every modern fashionista uses foundation to hide minor imperfections and highlight the advantages of facial skin. At the same time, it is also worth taking care to protect delicate skin from the negative effects of ultraviolet rays. That is why experts recommend, especially in the summer, to choose a foundation with spf 50 from a leading manufacturer that has an impeccable reputation in the market.
What is spf
Before you start choosing the best foundation, you first need to understand what SPF is.
This is a special factor that has the ability to reflect and absorb negative ultraviolet rays, preventing them from penetrating the skin. Ultimately, it is possible to protect the face from burns, age spots and skin diseases.
The SPF factor comes in different degrees, namely from 5 to 100. The smallest number is responsible for the low level of protection, respectively, the highest – for the maximum. You need to select the optimal level of protection, taking into account the time of year and skin type. For example, snow-white skin, especially in the summer heat, requires maximum protection, and dark skin requires minimal protection.
In addition, there are universal rules. Experts recommend choosing foundation creams with SPF 30 for the summer, and SPF 5-15 for winter.
It is worth knowing that the degree of protection affects the density of the cream. The higher it is, the thicker the cream will be, which can create difficulties when applied to the skin. In this case, makeup artists recommend choosing not creams, but fluids that have a light consistency and fit well on the skin.
Does it protect against sunburn?
The foundation was created to even out skin tone and hide minor imperfections. But when it contains SPF factor, the product also provides skin protection from ultraviolet radiation. In this case, the effect of the cream will depend on the degree of SPF. For example, a cream with SPF 10 protects the skin for two hours.
In addition, foundations tend to be completely absorbed into the skin within an hour, which automatically reduces the level of ultraviolet protection. Therefore, if you are constantly in the sun, you need to renew the cream every 2 hours, or choose the maximum level of protection.
Cosmetologists recommend choosing foundations with SPF from 5 to 30. This will be enough for young skin. For the beach, you need to choose products with SPF 50.
What should be included
Foundations with sunscreen effect contain the following components:
- Sun protection components. Foundations simultaneously contain both chemical and physical factors. The first react with ultraviolet radiation, preventing its penetration into the skin. These include salicylate, oxybenzone and avobenzone. Physical elements work on the surface of the skin to reflect the sun's rays. These are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
- Antioxidants based on natural plants and vitamins E, C. They are necessary to protect the skin from tension during contact with ultraviolet radiation.
- Humidifiers. When exposed to sunlight, the skin gradually loses moisture and becomes dry and wrinkled. That is why foundation creams contain components that nourish the skin and prevent premature aging.
Who should use cream with SPF 50?
Cream with SPF 50 reliably protects against UV rays. It is recommended to use only during a beach holiday and for people with white skin who are exposed to the sun for a long time. Otherwise, SPF 5-30 will be enough.
Mattifying cream comes in several types. In this case, two main types can be distinguished: classic and post-peeling, which we will consider below.
Classic tonal
Classic foundations can have a light, medium or thick consistency. They simultaneously create a beautiful skin tone and provide UV protection.
The following tips will help you choose the perfect foundation:
- For the summer season, if you plan to spend more time indoors, fair-skinned beauties are recommended to choose products with at least SPF 20.
- For tanned skin, a foundation with a light consistency and an SPF factor of 5-15 will be sufficient. This will be enough even for the summer season.
- There are foundations that give the skin a beautiful shine. They contain special particles that reflect the sun's rays and provide a natural glow to the skin. Such creams are especially popular today because they allow you to create natural makeup.
Post-peeling protective
After a chemical peel procedure, the skin becomes very sensitive, especially to aggressive sun rays. Especially for this purpose, a line of foundation creams has been developed that reliably protect the skin after cosmetic procedures. Most of these products contain iron oxide, which absorbs ultraviolet rays, preventing them from penetrating the pores of the skin.
Cosmetologists recommend performing chemical peeling only in autumn and winter, when the sun's rays are not so aggressive and cannot harm sensitive skin. Even in this case, you should only use cosmetics with an SPF factor. For example, foundation from the Israeli manufacturer Christina, which not only protects the skin from ultraviolet radiation, but also moisturizes and restores it.
Review of companies
There is a wide range of foundations with SPF on the market, so it will be difficult to make the right choice the first time. It is recommended to focus on the reputation of the manufacturer and consumer reviews.
Next, let's look at the features of popular brands of foundation.
Teint haute tenue from Clarins
The company presents 8 shades of cream, which allows you to choose the ideal option for almost any skin type. The composition includes components that not only protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation, but also nourish and restore it. For example, you can highlight the “Teint Haute Tenue” complex for preserving youth. The cream has a light texture and applies well to the skin, providing ideal tone and reliable protection.
Bioderma
The cream has only one natural shade and a protection factor of SPF 50. The texture of the cream is thick, but allows it to be easily absorbed, adapt to the natural shade of the skin, even out the tone and hide minor imperfections. The high degree of protection allows the cream to be used for snow-white, sensitive skin with age spots and wrinkles. Has a toning and matting effect. It is recommended to refresh your makeup every 2 hours, especially when in the sun.
Rose de mer by Christina
This cream is recommended for use after chemical peeling and other cosmetic procedures that irritate the skin. It has a single shade that easily adapts to the natural color of the skin, evening out the tone. Suitable for any age and skin type. The composition includes red clay and iron oxide, which reflect ultraviolet radiation, preventing it from penetrating the skin.
Glow by Lumene
The cream has a light texture, 6 shades with a radiant effect. Thanks to its light texture, the cream instantly penetrates the pores, moisturizing the skin and evening out the tone. The degree of protection is SPF 15.
Ever matte from Clarins
An excellent mattifying after-sun cream for hands and feet. The degree of protection is SPF 15. Moisturizes the skin and protects against ultraviolet radiation.
Is it easy to choose a foundation that can protect from the sun? Yana Karimova understands
As you may have noticed from the material about bb and cc creams, I am, as they say, crazy about SPF. More precisely, in terms of sunscreen tinting agents. Having tried options with care, I switched to classic foundations with high (30 or more) SPF.
Oddly enough, there were very few of them on the market. So I was able to try almost everything.
Let me remind you of the testing conditions. For the purity of the experiment, I applied all the products with my fingers and relatively tightly to preserve the sun protection properties. But in order for the review to be useful for those who don’t care about them, I also tried using brushes and sponges. I have combination skin (normal with slight oiliness in the T-zone).
Participants in the experiment:
- foundation City Radiance SPF 30, Bourjois;
- foundation face cream with a mattifying effect “Perfect Makeup” Diorskin Forever SPF 35 PA+++, Dior;
- caring foundation Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40, Bobbi Brown;
- Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, MAC;
- two-phase nourishing foundation elixir SPF 30 Maestro Glow, Giorgio Armani.
Let's start with the most budget copy.
Foundation City Radiance SPF 30, Bourjois
The packaging is a regular tube, convenient. The cream is quite thick and does not spread over the skin very easily. The coating is medium, not thinly transparent, but not armor-piercing either. There is a slight glow from within, but the face looks a little flat, especially if you apply the product with your fingers. With a brush it turns out thinner and better. It doesn’t clog into wrinkles, folds, or pores, although I don’t know how it will deal with peeling. It’s not that noticeable on the skin, but it’s not suitable for the “makeup without makeup” effect.
There are 6 shades, I have 02, and it suits me for a light tan, but I don’t think it would suit my winter skin.
In short, a normal foundation. Even good. In its price category, it’s one of the best I’ve tried. But not my favorite in this selection. I love lighter, shinier products. But if you like something a little denser and satin, take a closer look.
Foundation with a mattifying effect “Perfect Makeup” Diorskin Forever SPF 35 PA+++, Dior
If the previous copy is not my cup of tea, then this one is not my cup of fermented baked milk. And I can’t stand fermented baked milk since childhood. When Diorskin Forever first came out, my fellow beauty insiders with oily and problematic skin praised it for its matte finish, longevity and good coverage. I honestly wanted to love him. It is the only one of the five that protects against UVA rays, and for me this is important. But it didn’t work out.
Yes, it polishes pores and masks all but the most severe inflammation. Yes, he is persistent. But – it is noticeable on the skin. But – it rolls into wrinkles (and I’m not the most wrinkled lady, to be honest). If you apply it with your fingers, it goes on like striped plaster. A tightly packed brush is better, a damp sponge is even better, but there is no masking left. Taking a closer look, I found something to praise it for: although it is declared as matte, it is rather velvety, a drop of radiance breaks through from within, so that the face does not look like a clay mask.
I didn’t find a suitable shade for myself: the lightest 010 is pinkish for me, and 021, on the contrary, is too dark and yellow. By the way, 010 oxidizes on the skin and darkens/reddish. In general, you will have an easier time finding your shade if your skin is pinkish-beige.
Overall, if you're looking for coverage, matte finish, and longevity, don't pass it up. And if you don’t need it, go ahead.
And now we are starting a marathon of moisturizing foundations in bottles with pipettes - a caring foundation Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40, Bobbi Brown , foundation Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, MAC and two-phase nourishing tone elixir SPF 30 Maestro Glow, Giorgio Armani.
Why exactly in this format brands began to produce foundations with high SPF - God knows. But since this has happened, I will talk about them not separately, but in comparison. To make it clearer how they differ.
The packaging for all three is approximately the same - a glass bottle with a pipette. The neck gets dirty quickly.
The texture is generally similar - the tonal liquid and flowing. Bobbi Brown is thicker than the others, while Giorgio Armani has a more oily feel.
The coverage of MAC and Giorgio Armani is approximately the same - thin and transparent. You can layer until medium if desired. Well, or almost average. In one layer they even out the tone, in a couple they mask noticeable redness. Bobbi Brown is denser and can hide subtle inflammations.
Bobbi Brown is almost invisible on the skin. MAC and Giorgio Armani are not visible at all. And this is not an exaggeration, they really are not visible even in a magnifying mirror.
All three add shine, but to varying degrees.
Bobbi Brown is the calmest, MAC is stronger, Giorgio Armani is even more noticeable. The last two look almost shiny on my combination skin, especially in the T-zone. I really like this. Even more. (Whoever reads my channel on Telegram knows the hashtag #SHINYFACE, and that for me “like being dipped in oil” is a compliment.)
Foundations feel very different on the skin. Bobbi Brown - like a light foundation. MAC is almost imperceptible. And Giorgio Armani is like a moisturizer.
Longevity is about the same: not supernatural, but I didn’t find myself with a bare face in the middle of the day.
MAC and Bobbi Brown have excellent shade ranges, from dark to light with different undertones. At Giorgio Armani the situation is typical for the brand: we have five shades. Fortunately for those who find everything too dark, my 2 (the lightest in Russia) is really light.
To summarize, Intensive Skin Serum Foundation, Bobbi Brown, is denser and has less shine than its counterparts, Maestro Glow, Giorgio Armani is the most radiant and moisturizing, and Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, MAC is the golden mean.
After testing, my favorites were Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation, MAC and Maestro Glow, Giorgio Armani. Because they are not visible on the skin and shine with an almost wet shine. I can also say about City Radiance SPF 30, Bourjois and Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40, Bobbi Brown that these are very good foundations. I won’t give them to anyone, I’ll keep them for myself in case I need a denser coating. We didn’t quite get along with Diorskin Forever SPF 35 PA+++, Dior, but I’m sure that for some it’s just the thing.

Have you tried any of these foundations? Want to try it after the review?
In spring, the effect of solar energy on the upper layers of the skin intensifies. Therefore, it is better to change your foundation, which should always have some protection from UV rays, for a product with a high SPF in spring.
Sun protection must be tailored to suit your lifestyle. For example, office workers in the spring can use foundation with SPF 4-15. To travel outside the city on a sunny day, you will need more intense protection - SPF 25-30. Girls whose skin is contraindicated in the sun due to medications, aggressive cosmetic procedures, or the characteristics of the epidermis should use a foundation with an SPF of more than 25 every day.
Today we will discuss the best foundations that contain sun protection ingredients and find several options that are suitable for aging skin.
Spectacular SPF 10, Helena Rubinstein
Tonal fluid in a large number of shades. Suitable for any skin type, remains on the face for 12 hours without smudging or bald spots. Ideal for everyday makeup as it gives the skin the radiance it needs. It has a matte finish that allows you to leave coverage on your face without applying powder.
This product is not recommended for use on aging skin.
L'Oreal Paris Nude Magique Cushion Foundation
A cushion that covers redness and minor inflammation. It looks good without powder or highlighter on top, as it illuminates the face on its own and has a matte finish. It is produced with different SPF levels for different countries - for example, in Europe you can buy this product with sun protection in the region of 20. In Russia, standard protection of size 10-15 is most often presented.
Naked Skin One & Done SPF 20, Urban Decay
A foundation that Western makeup artists adore. He managed to fall in love with professionals on the Russian market. You can find the product in any store with stands for makeup artists - the brand is gradually leaving large retail chains.
The cream is suitable for girls with almost any skin type. Hides imperfections, but does not even out the skin. For its price it replaces several products - it combines fluid, concealer, light corrector and illuminator, which is responsible for the internal glow of the skin.
Can be used for age-related makeup - does not emphasize fine wrinkles and does not sink into folds.
Dermablend 3D SPF 25, Vichy
A great option for girls with skin that is prone to irritation and rashes. Basically, foundation creams of this brand heal the skin, intensively nourish it and protect it from external influences. The coverage area is small, but it is enough to completely eliminate post-acne, acne and redness. The cream can be used for age-related makeup, combining it with a concealer of a lighter shade.
One of the best foundations sold in pharmacy chains, with a high SPF factor and ingredients already included in the composition that prepare the base for application. Winner of several glossy awards of the year as the best decorative product.
BB cream Dream Fresh SPF 30, Maybelline
The most affordable foundation on our list. Due to its composition, it cares for the skin more than it covers visible imperfections. However, it has a high SPF for Russia and the local market, which makes it possible to call this product an interesting option for spring.
Suitable for normal to dry skin, does not highlight flaking. Does not cover the face completely without accompanying products. Makeup artists recommend applying this foundation on a light, non-silicone face base.
