How to overcome increased appetite

Scientists have found another way to combat excess weight. This time we don’t have to go far, the “healing potion” is right in our body.

Researchers from Columbia University, together with a group of scientists from the New York Stem Cell Foundation, believe that our skin can be very effective for losing weight. They reached this conclusion by trying to give its cells uncharacteristic properties, namely neurons that control appetite.

First of all, scientists reprogrammed the cells at the genetic level, making them similar to so-called pluripotent stem cells. The uniqueness of the latter lies in the fact that as they “grow up,” they can turn into cells of any type (including nerve cells), if the appropriate signals are set at the molecular level in a certain order.

Thus, scientists have reproduced neurons located in the nuclei of the hypothalamus, which are actually responsible for our desire to eat something tasty. The newly created skin neurons behaved in the same way as their “appetizing counterparts” in the brain. In particular, they began to determine the level of insulin and leptin, which regulates energy metabolism.

Having received an additional portion of barriers, the body will be able to cope with excessive appetite much easier. This discovery will help create individual programs to combat excess weight.
