A pestle

The pistil is the flower organ in which macrospores are formed. The pestle consists of three main parts:

  1. The ovary is the lower expanded part of the pistil, which contains the ovules.

  2. The style is the rod-shaped part of the pistil that connects the ovary to the stigma. The pollen travels along the column to the ovules.

  3. Stigma is the upper part of the pistil, having a papillary or other surface for trapping pollen grains.

Thus, the pistil performs the important function of fertilization and seed development in the flower. Without the pistil, the formation of fruits and seeds is impossible. The pistil is an integral part of the angiosperm flower.
