Altiazem PP: description, use and side effects

Altiazem PP is a drug from the group of benzodiazepine calcium channel blockers that is manufactured by several companies, including Berlin-Chemie AG in Germany and Instituto Lusofarmaco in Italy. The drug is widely used for the treatment of various diseases, such as angina pectoris, arterial hypertension, ventricular fibrillation and flutter, as well as for the prevention of coronary spasm during coronary angiography or coronary artery bypass surgery.

The composition of the drug includes the active substance - diltiazem, which is a calcium channel blocker. Altiazem PP is produced in the form of 180 mg capsules, which contain the specified amount of diltiazem.

Although Altiazem PP is a fairly effective drug, it also has a number of contraindications and side effects that should be taken into account when using it. Contraindications include hypersensitivity, cardiogenic shock, left ventricular systolic dysfunction, sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, sinoatrial and AV block II-III degree, severe aortic stenosis, Wolff-Parconson-White syndrome and Lown-Ganong-Levine syndrome with paroxysmal fibrillation. or atrial flutter, impaired liver and kidney function, childhood, pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects of Altiazem PP may include transient hypotension, bradycardia, stage I conduction disturbance, decreased cardiac output, palpitations, fainting, eosinophilia, headache, dizziness, weakness, feeling of fatigue, peripheral edema, impaired potency, dyspeptic symptoms, hyperplasia of the gingival mucosa , sweating, redness of the skin and allergic reactions.

The interaction of Altiazem PP with other drugs can lead to an increase in the inhibitory effect of anesthetics on the heart, as well as to impaired AV conduction and the development of bradycardia in combination with antiarrhythmic drugs and beta-blockers. The drug may also increase plasma levels of carbamazepine, theophylline, cyclosporine A and digoxin, and reduce the nephrotoxic effects of cyclosporine A.
