Amicin

Amicin: description, use, side effects and special instructions

Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is used to treat various infections. It is manufactured in India by Byokem Pharmaceutical Industries and is available in the form of 100 mg injection.

Indications for use

Amycin is used to treat various infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to this drug. Such infections include pneumonia, lung abscess, peritonitis, sepsis, meningitis, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, purulent infections of the skin and soft tissues, infected ulcers and bedsores of various origins, burns, kidney and urinary tract infections, postoperative infections.

Contraindications

Amycin should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to the drug, acoustic neuritis, impaired renal function, renal failure, uremia, pregnancy (only for health reasons).

Side effects

Some side effects may occur when using amycin. These may include hearing and balance disorders, kidney damage, headache, nausea, vomiting, changes in the cellular composition of peripheral blood (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, granulocytopenia), increased activity of liver transaminases, hyperbilirubinemia, allergic reactions (itching, urticaria).

Interaction

Amycin can increase (mutually) the effect of carbenicillin, benzylpenicillin, and cephalosporins. Loop diuretics may increase ototoxicity.

Overdose

In case of an overdose of amycin, toxic reactions may occur. Treatment in this case may include peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis.

special instructions

Amycin should not be administered in the same syringe with other drugs, as this may lead to pharmaceutical incompatibility. During treatment, it is necessary to constantly monitor amikacin plasma concentrations, renal function, hearing and the vestibular system. Other oto- and nephrotoxic drugs, such as streptomycin, kanamycin, monomycin, gentamicin, tobramycin, viomycin, polymyxin B, furosemide, ethacrynic acid, should not be used simultaneously. If there is no effect within 5 days, the drug is discontinued and treatment tactics are reconsidered.

During treatment with amycin, it is necessary to avoid drinking alcohol, as this may increase unwanted side effects. Long-term use of amycin should also be avoided, as this can lead to the development of superinfection and a decrease in the sensitivity of bacteria to the drug.

When using amycin in patients with impaired renal function, it is necessary to regularly monitor the level of creatinine in the blood plasma and adjust the dosage of the drug in accordance with test results.

In general, amycin is an effective antibiotic for the treatment of various infections caused by bacteria, but its use should be limited to health-related indications and under medical supervision.
