Appendicitis Hernia

Hernial appendicitis (a. hemialis) is an inflammation of the appendix located in the hernial sac. This is a rare complication of inguinal and femoral hernias.

Causes

The cause of hernial appendicitis is inversion of the appendix together with a strangulated hernia. This leads to impaired blood circulation in the appendix and subsequent inflammation.

Symptoms

Symptoms of hernial appendicitis:

  1. pain in the hernia area
  2. redness and swelling of the hernial protrusion
  3. nausea, vomiting
  4. increase in body temperature

Diagnostics

The diagnosis is confirmed by physical and ultrasound examination data.

Treatment

Treatment consists of urgent surgical intervention - herniotomy with excision of the appendix. This eliminates pinching and inflammation.

Thus, hernial appendicitis is a dangerous complication of hernias that requires urgent surgical treatment.
