Arfonad

Arfonad: ganglion blocking agent from Switzerland

Arfonade (Trimetaphan camsilate) is a ganglion blocking agent manufactured by Hoffmann-La Roche in Switzerland. It is used to treat acute hypertensive crisis, which can occur in various diseases such as stroke, hemorrhagic shock, acute myocarditis and other conditions.

Arfonad belongs to a group of medicines called ganglion blockers, which block the transmission of nerve impulses in the autonomic nervous system. This can reduce the symptoms of a hypertensive crisis, such as headache, nausea, vomiting, sweating, palpitations and high blood pressure.

Arfonad is produced in the form of a powder for the preparation of an injection solution containing 250 mg of trimethophan camsilate. The drug is used only in hospital settings under the supervision of qualified medical personnel.

The use of Arfonad may cause some side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, sweating, weakness and a drop in blood pressure. Other, less common side effects include allergic reactions and changes in heart rhythm.

Overall, Arfonad is an effective medicine for the treatment of acute hypertensive crisis, but its use should only be carried out under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. Like any other medicine, Arfonad should be used only as prescribed by a doctor and in accordance with the instructions for use.
