The posterior segment artery is the vessels that pass inside the scalp, skull bones and muscles. It belongs to the external carotid artery system, which in turn belongs to the arterial system of the head and neck. The arteries of the posterior segment include the middle, anterior and posterior temporal, occipital and supratrochlear arteries. They also include the external carotid artery. The arteries of the posterior segment supply blood to the outer membrane of the brain. The middle, anterior and occipital arteries of the posterior segment are the main arteries supplying blood to the skin of the parietal and occipital region.
