Benzodiazepines are a group of drugs that have tranquilizing, sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant effects.

Benzodiazepines include drugs such as bromazepam, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, oxazepam and others. They are widely used in medical practice for the treatment of anxiety disorders, insomnia, convulsive conditions, and also as a premedication before operations and medical procedures.

The action of benzodiazepines is based on their ability to enhance the inhibitory effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.

However, it should be borne in mind that long-term use of benzodiazepines can cause addiction and drug dependence. Therefore, their use should be limited to short courses and strictly under the supervision of a physician.
