Cerebellar ataxia

Cerebellar ataxia is a syndrome of varying degrees of severity of extrapyramidal disorders, the main clinical manifestations of which are decreased speed and dexterity of movements, unsteady gait, unsteadiness, nystagmus, scanned speech, dysarthria, weakened abdominal reflexes, hand tremors, postural instability. Ataxia is defined in a benign course as an acute lack of cerebellar dysfunction. Formally, such patients can be classified as patients with volumetric lesions of central structures, but they do not have obvious symptoms of lesions of cerebral structures. With cerebellar ataxia, the patient has no factors of damage to brain structures (no clinical symptoms). Cerebellar dysfunction should not be confused with olivopontocerebellar neurological disorders (brain stem dysfunction).
