Chapter 10. Learning to Control Diabetes
To achieve a good result in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, as well as any other chronic disease, the conscious active participation of the patient in the treatment process is very important.
Only this approach to business will help achieve your goal and avoid complications of the disease. To do this, the patient must learn to understand his feelings, independently evaluate test results, be able to provide first aid to himself, and change the treatment regimen if necessary. Knowledge and skills will help him gain freedom and a sense of independence, which, you see, means a lot in the life of any of us!
But, as you know, you need to fight for your freedom and independence. Thank God, not with weapons in hand, but with the help of diligence and patience. “Sitting behind the barricades,” may the reader forgive such a comparison, people, as a rule, are lazy and absolutely indifferent to themselves and to those around them. It is not surprising that it is these patients who end up with all sorts of troubles, and it is they who have the most serious complications of diabetes.
Fortunately, most patients, not in words, but in deeds, prove their interest in the results of treatment. These patients think not only about themselves, but also about those who are nearby and somehow depend on them. They have a sense of responsibility to their loved ones, for whose sake they live and, by the will of the Almighty, walk through our difficult life.
In this chapter we will talk directly about diabetes control.
