What is cryomassage

The term "cryo" refers to the use of liquid nitrogen, which is capable of preserving living tissue. But cryomassage does not always use nitrogen. The procedure is also based on the impact of snow and ice on problem areas of the body. As a result of the procedure, blood flow slows down and blood vessels narrow.

Cryomassage with liquid nitrogen is carried out with a special applicator, which is used to move along massage lines. Also, the liquid nitrogen procedure can be carried out by direct impact on the selected area of the body.

Due to cold exposure, the sensitivity of nerve endings is minimized. Due to this, pain on the skin and blood vessels is eliminated. There is a significant increase in joint mobility. It is worth noting that the procedure is absolutely painless. During the procedure, the patient may feel slight tingling and a feeling of cold, which will disappear after the session.

Stages of the procedure

Before talking about the main stages of cryomassage, it is worth noting that there are varieties of the procedure. Today we will talk about cryomassage with liquid nitrogen and ice.

Nitrogen is a gas that at a certain temperature, namely minus 196 degrees Celsius, turns into an odorless and colorless liquid. And at elevated temperatures this substance evaporates.

In most cases, liquid nitrogen is used to remove benign growths on the skin (warts, papillomas), rosacea and other cosmetic imperfections. During the process of cryomassage, blood vessels are reconstructed, after which redness on the skin and other problems disappear.

In beauty salons, liquid nitrogen is stored in 8 or 16-liter Dewar flasks. To conduct the session, the required part of liquid nitrogen is transferred to a specially prepared thermos. Then the required amount is taken out using a wooden stick with a cotton swab at the end. The specialist’s movements must be quick and targeted so that the nitrogen does not evaporate.

The process goes like this:

  1. Using a stick, liquid nitrogen is applied in a thin layer to the surface of the skin. The patient feels only a slight chill on the treated surface.
  2. The applied nitrogen instantly constricts blood vessels and forms an icy crust on the skin.
  3. As soon as this composition is heated, nitrogen evaporates, and with it the build-up disappears. Only slight redness remains in the treated area.

This effect triggers accelerated blood circulation in the cells, which leads to the saturation of the skin with beneficial microelements and vitamins. The duration of one procedure is 10-15 minutes.

Liquid nitrogen affects the problem area of the skin

To carry out this procedure, two plastic bags with ice are used.

How this procedure works:

  1. The part of the body being massaged should take an elevated position.
  2. The prepared bags are applied to the required area and pressed a little.
  3. Then the specialist begins to perform circular or zigzag strokes.
  4. If a facial or head massage is performed, movements should be carried out along the massage lines.
  5. To treat cellulite or inflammatory processes, massage is performed over the entire problem area, as well as the area above and below the problem area.
  6. Exposure to ice is carried out for 2-3 minutes. Overexposure to cold can lead to cold burns.
  7. If you need to act on injured areas of the body, in this case, bags of ice are placed on the desired area and secured with bandages. Leave for 10-15 minutes.

At the end of the session, the patient undergoes thermal procedures and exercises on simulators. The meaning of thermal exposure after cold is that heat dilates blood vessels, improves skin breathing, and blood vessels experience “relief.”
