Dyslexia is a selective impairment of the ability to master reading and writing skills while maintaining the general ability to learn (as opposed to alexia - a complete inability to read and in contrast to agraphia - the inability to write). Dyslexia is the most common mental reading disorder in childhood; difficulties persist into adulthood.
