**Pulmonary emphysema (bronchial asthma)** is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lower respiratory tract, characterized by irreversible or partially reversible destruction of the cartilaginous and mucous structures of the bronchi and accompanied by impaired pulmonary function. In children, an emphysematous type of bronchial asthma is observed. Most often, the early development of emphysema is caused by infectious diseases, rickets, systematic acute respiratory viral infections, severe allergic conditions, smoking, and occupational hazards.
