Esophagoscopy is a method of examining the esophagus and stomach using a special instrument - an esophagoscope. This instrument allows the doctor to examine the lining of the esophagus and identify possible diseases such as ulcers, tumors, hernias and other pathologies.
Esophagoscopy is performed in the presence of symptoms such as chest pain, heartburn, belching, vomiting and others. It may also be prescribed to monitor treatment or diagnose other diseases.
To perform esophagoscopy, a special instrument is used - an esophagoscope, which is a long flexible tube with a camera at the end. The doctor inserts a tube into the esophagus through the mouth and advances it to the stomach. The camera allows the doctor to see the condition of the esophageal mucosa and, if necessary, take pictures or video.
The esophagoscopy procedure can be a little uncomfortable, but it is usually done without pain or discomfort. After the procedure, the doctor can give recommendations on the treatment and prevention of diseases.
Esophagotopia is a condition of the stomach in which there is an inversion into the esophageal cavity. The episode occurs acutely and is more common in people with achalasia cardia or those who have had surgery for stomach cancer. The exact reasons for the development remain unclear.
Normally, in a person, gastric contents return to the esophagus under the action of gastric peristalsis at the time of swallowing, i.e. there is “antiperistalsis” according to Preiser.
In a healthy person, antiperistalsis always functions - a person swallows food without problems and gastric contents do not enter the oral cavity and further into the respiratory tract.
With the development of esophagopia, the antiperistalsis process fails due to hypertonicity of the muscles of the lower third of the esophagus and a weakening of the tone of the cardia (valve between the stomach and esophagus), which can lead to the penetration of gastric secretions into the esophagus and oropharynx. The entry of acidic (salt) digestive contents into the oropharynx is fraught with negative consequences for humans. This phenomenon will require emergency medical care - oral sanitation.
