Fontana Main

**Basic fontanelle** is a paired spongy formation of the fetal skull, located in the middle third of the parietal bones. By the time the child is born, the child’s native “back of the head” is overgrown in more than 90% of infants, and the main infant gap remains open in one out of 50 infants until this moment in a full-term child. After the seams have completely fused, the hole will retain its ellipsoidal shape and size for a long time. Unlike the sphenoid fontanel, it does not disappear completely. The skin in the fontanel area has hairs rising above it.

Normally, the head of a newborn is disproportionately large due to the pronounced growth of the cerebral part of the skull due to an increase in the size of the fontanelles. This is accompanied by expansion of the sutures between the bones of the skull and is not a pathology.
