Gaimorov's sinus

Structural features

In the formation of the paranasal sinuses, a large role belongs to the blind processes of the maxillary process of the facial bone - the mastoid process. In the lateral part of the facial skull, these protrusions directly fuse with the bone; in the anterior part there is an intermamillary bone ridge connected to them by connective tissue. The costal processes also play a role in the growth of the middle and superior turbinates and the ethmoid bone.

Main features of the anatomy of the paranasal sinuses. The maxillary sinus forms the outer wall of the nasal cavity in front of the cartilaginous plates

The maxillary sinus, the greater palatine sinus (high resolution sinus), the superior orbital sinus, also the maxillary sinus is a paired cavity in the body of the upper jaw bone, which communicates with the nasal cavity through the anastomosis.

It is considered the lower part of the nasal sinuses, located in the upper jaw at the junction of the frontal section of the upper facial bone with the lacrimal bone, the upper border opens to the opening of the greater palatine canal, and the upper border is the body of the zygomatic bone at the supraorbital groove. It is the main right and left air reservoir of the skull, located between two types of the human external nose: common and lateral.

The maxillary sinuses are located above and behind the eye sockets near the fronts of the facial part of the cranial vault. The greater palatine sinus lies in front of the sphenoid sinus (which borders anteriorly) and is adjacent to the ethmoidal labyrinth on one side and the maxilla and zygomatic bone on the other side.
