Galega officinalis, or Goat's rue
Legumes - Fabaceae (Leguminosae). Pharmacy name: galega herb - Galegae herba (formerly: Herba Galegae). Botanical description.
A perennial herb reaching a height of 60 to 120 cm, with odd-pinnate leaves. The bluish butterfly flowers are collected in racemes on long peduncles. Found in Eastern and Southern Europe and Asia Minor.
Active ingredients: guanidine derivatives, flavone glycosides, tannins, saponins, bitterness.
Application. In folk medicine it is used to enhance milk secretion in nursing mothers and as a remedy for diabetes (I would like to warn you that the latter is controversial).
It is also considered a mild diuretic.
