Gnathostomiasis is a parasitic infection caused by a special family of mites called Acari. Also known popularly as larval mites or lice mites. Gnathosoma is a wingless, legless animal. They often live in animal and human hair. External signs: small beige-yellow mites, 0.25–0.35 mm in size. They feed on host tissues, causing irritation, itching and eczematization of the affected areas of the body. The disease is observed exclusively in poultry.
