Iteration

Iteration (from Latin iteratio - repetition) - in psychiatry, this is a forced repeated repetition of any actions or words, characteristic of some mental illnesses.

Iteration can manifest itself in the form of obsessive, monotonous movements or speech stereotypies. For example, a person with schizophrenia may spend hours walking back and forth along the same route or repeating some meaningless phrase.

Iterations are often observed in schizophrenia, but can also occur in other mental disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, autism, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The appearance of pronounced iterations usually indicates a violation of higher mental functions and indicates a progressive course of the disease.
