How to draw a black cat for Halloween

Here we have another watercolor painting tutorial, and it's about combining three attributes of Halloween: orange, full moon and black cats. This tutorial will mainly focus on drawing black cats. You will work on how to add highlights, layer the painting, and paint a lunar autumn.

Materials:

  1. watercolor paints
  2. palette
  3. jar of water
  4. cold press paper
  5. 1" Round Brush
  6. round brush no. 8
  7. pencil
  8. paper towel

Step by step lesson

To start, make a circle on your watercolor paper to mimic the shape of the moon. You can draw it right in the center of your paper or just off center. Next, use your 1-inch round brush to use Winsor Orange to make a large white circle around the moon circle you just painted.

Then use a 1-inch brush to apply Winsor Yellow. While the orange paint is still wet, brush the outside of the white circle. Brush the color until the yellow and orange colors are mixed. For the moon itself, leave it unpainted. Let it dry a little.

Then, using yellow paint, paint the inside of the circle, but still allow the moon to remain white. If you want the bottom of the image to have more depth, add more orange. Let the paint dry.

Once the paint is dry, sketch out the silhouette of the cat and some tree branches. Draw the cat off-center to make it more interesting.

Take a brush number 8, set it to Lamp Black and draw the outline of the cat.

Still using #8 and black, fill in the rest of the cat's body. Add a highlight to the upper body and head of the cat. Then give the cat another coat of black to deepen the color.

Now take a paper towel and use it to remove some of the paint from the left side of the cat's body. This will help you focus on the cat.

Then make a brown shade by mixing Winsor Orange and Lamp Black (3:1). Paint the tree branches and some other parts of them using the new shade and a size 8 brush.

Paint some shadows by adding another coat of brown paint to the branches and then add some black.

Then paint some leaves using a size 8 brush. When drawing them, try to change the shade and size of the leaves. Additionally, add one more detail, darkening the cat's shadow. If you want to add more shadows, use Lamp Black color.

Let the drawing dry. Then remove all pencil marks.

Drawing lesson on Halloween theme. Now we will draw a black cat for Halloween with a pencil step by step. The black cat is always scared, standing in a protective pose and disheveled. He climbs roofs, fences, sits on a broom with Baba Yaga.

First we draw the frontal part, ears, and the outline of the cat’s muzzle.

Draw a curved back.

Then the front legs, which merged into one, and the stomach was also curved.

Hind legs and tail.

Draw the paws and eyes.

Paint over. The drawing of a black cat for Halloween is ready.
