Essence.
These are brittle greenish stems and leaves as thick as basil or larger. The Ionians call the grass of this plant “earth oak” because its leaves are similar to oak leaves. They are bitter, and its root has a purple hue.

Choice.
It must be collected as soon as it appears.

Nature.
Galen says: “It is hot, dry to the third degree, and warms more than it dries.”

Actions and properties.
Opens, tears, thins. Warms the body somewhat.

Wounds and ulcers.
Mixed with honey, it cleanses chronic ulcers.

Tools with joints.
Fresh or poisoned Dubrovnik helps if you drink it when you have a muscle rupture. Wine with it is useful for spasms, and the older it is, the better.

Organs of the eye.
Pills are prepared from common dubrovnik, which are dried and used for ulcers in the eye. They also use a decoction of it in olive oil, and crushed dubrovnik helps with lacrimal fistula.

Respiratory and chest organs.
Common Dubrovnik helps with chronic cough.

Nutritional organs.
It reduces the thickening of the spleen and helps against black jaundice. Wine is made from it, which is very useful for poor digestion, and the older it is, the better. Dubrovnik is useful at the onset of dropsy.

Eruption organs.
Common Dubrovnik drives out urine and menstruation and expels the fetus.

Poisons.
It is used as a medicinal bandage for reptile bites.

Substitutes.
It is replaced by the roots of hemp-like sapling or centipede.
