There are two types of centaury - small and large - it grows in late spring. Centaury leaves are similar to tamarisk leaves. Its thick appearance consists of white and yellow stems with green heads; its sprouts are large, broom-like. At one time it is given to a patient with fever to drink for up to two dirhams. The grass of small centaury is similar to mountain mint and St. John's wort, and its leaves resemble rue leaves. Squeezed juice is prepared from the small centaury - sometimes from fresh, and sometimes from dry - and boiled it in water until the water takes all its strength, and then this liquid is condensed.

Actions and properties.
It has the ability to cleanse and bind, as well as a pungency and some sweetness, and it dries without burning. They say that if you cook it with meat cut into pieces, it will unite them.

Wounds and ulcers.
Centaury cleanses fresh wounds and closes old ulcers. Dry centaury is included in plasters and heals fistulas, deep ulcers and malignant wounds. Sometimes the fistula is filled with centaury and tied, and this improves its condition.

Joints.
It is useful for muscle ruptures and when pus appears in them. An enema prepared from fine centaury is sometimes especially helpful for inflammation of the sciatic nerve, pain in the nerves and ruptures, and fine centaury is even more useful in all these cases; if, in addition, it removes a certain amount of blood, the benefit from it will be complete. Sometimes for these diseases they give an enema of centaury ash with water.

Organs of the head.
A powder is prepared from squeezed centaury juice with honey, which is placed on the lacrimal fistula, and this heals it. It helps against catarrh and resolves tumors.

Respiratory system.
Centaury stops hemoptysis due to its astringent properties; thick and thin centaury are useful for difficulty breathing. Two dirhams of it by weight are given to drink in wine for cold pleurisy and hemoptysis.

Nutritional organs.
It is useful for blockages in the liver and hardening of the spleen.

Eruption organs.
It expels menstruation, expels fetuses, kills intestinal worms and expels urine. Two dirhams of it by weight are given to drink for pain in the intestines and pain in the uterus, and it also helps with kulanj. A decoction of centaury sometimes removes yellow bile along with mucus and immature juices. Centaury taken in excessive quantities, especially thin ones, weakens the blood.
