A caper's hernia is a surgical intervention that is performed in rare cases for particularly complex types of hernia. Such an operation can be prescribed for both a large inguinal hernia and a hernia of the iliopsoas region. With a large inguinal or femoral hernia, the patient most often has significant excess skin that must be excised to provide access to the abdominal organs. A caper hernia is performed through an incision above the hernial protrusion or even outside it in the case of extensive hernias. After all the organs are opened, the entire hernial mass is removed. The hernial sac is isolated, the abdominal organs are inspected and only the hernial orifice is removed; the hernial sacs must remain in place so that the abdominal wall returns to the desired state when all manipulations are completed.
