Drops of Votchal

Votchal drops: use, side effects and special instructions

Votchal drops are a medicine that belongs to the group of antianginal drugs, containing nitrates and nitrites. Votchal drops are produced in Russia by the Pharmacy Preparation company.

The main active ingredient of Votchal drops is a solution of nitroglycerin (1-2% alcohol), which is softened with menthol or validol and supplemented with tinctures of lily of the valley, belladonna and valerian. This makes Votchal drops an effective treatment for mild forms of angina, cardioneurosis and smooth muscle spasms.

However, Votchal drops have a number of contraindications for use. They include hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, cerebral hemorrhage, myocardial infarction, severe hypotension, increased intracranial pressure, toxic pulmonary edema, severe aortic stenosis and glaucoma. Therefore, before starting to take Votchal drops, you should consult your doctor and make sure there are no contraindications.

In addition, Votchal drops may cause side effects such as headache, dizziness, hypotension, arrhythmia, orthostatic collapse, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth and allergic reactions. If any side effects occur, you should immediately seek medical help.

It should also be borne in mind that uncontrolled use of Votchal drops can lead to the development of tolerance to nitrates, which manifests itself in a decrease in the duration and severity of the effect with regular use or increasing the dose to achieve the same effect. To prevent the occurrence of resistance, intermittent dosing throughout the day or co-administration of calcium antagonists, ACE inhibitors, or diuretics is necessary. Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment.

It is also important to remember that menthol and nitroglycerin have a mutually reinforcing effect, therefore, to improve the tolerability of nitroglycerin, it is mixed with a menthol solution in a ratio of 1:9.

Thus, Votchal drops are an effective remedy for the treatment of mild forms of angina, cardioneurosis and smooth muscle spasms, but they should be used only on the orders of a doctor and taking into account contraindications and possible side effects. Before you start taking Votchal drops, you should consult your doctor and tell them about all your existing diseases, medications you are taking and past allergic reactions. It is also necessary to follow the recommendations for dosage and dosage regimen to avoid the development of tolerance to nitrates. If any side effects occur, seek medical attention.
