Ketonuria

**What is ketonuria?**

Ketonuria is a condition in which excess ketones are found in the blood and urine. Ketones are organic compounds that are formed as a result of the breakdown of fats in the body. Under normal conditions, ketones are excreted from the body through urine and blood. But when the level of ketones in the blood increases, they begin to penetrate into the urine, which leads to the formation of ketone bodies and an increase in the pH level of the urine. This may be due to various medical conditions such as diabetes, malnutrition, fever or dehydration.

**Symptoms of ketone toxicity**

The main symptoms of ketonuria are:

- Nausea and vomiting;

- Headache and dizziness;

- Dry mouth; - Weakness and drowsiness; - Increased thirst; - Impaired consciousness.

In some cases, ketonuria may occur without visible symptoms, but in this case it will still require treatment. Therefore, it is important to monitor the pH level and ketone content not only in the urine, but also in the blood.

In addition, an increase in the level of ketone bodies may be accompanied by disruption of the kidneys, liver and other organs, as they are involved in the process of ketone metabolism. Also, improper handling of the ketonic state can lead to disruption of metabolic processes and disruption of the effectiveness of treatment.

Treatment for ketonuria involves following a low-carbohydrate, low-fat diet, drinking fluids, and regulating glucose levels. In severe cases, medications may be used to lower ketone levels and maintain normal metabolic health.

The general recommendation is to consult a doctor and strictly adhere to your diet. Self-medication is unacceptable! Without adequate treatment, ketonemia can lead not only to a general deterioration in the body's condition, but even to coma and death.
