Colitis Atrophic

Atrophic colitis is a disease of the gastrointestinal tract, characterized by the death of cells of the intestinal mucosa and, as a consequence, the absence of microflora.

Gastric and duodenal ulcers are the cause of atrophic colitis along with chronic gastritis. The fact that these factors are the same is proven by the fact that gastritis always causes atrophy of the mucosa. This is explained by a decrease in the body’s immunity, as a result of which it is not able to resist the development of pathogenic microflora.

The occurrence of the syndrome is typical for pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract, especially against the background of inflammatory processes.

The disease is accompanied by sudden weight loss. Weight loss in an adult starts from 3 percent or more. This fact becomes especially noticeable during long-term illness. Most often, excess loss is observed in the first month of the disease, when its dynamics increase significantly.
