Cotripharm 480: use, indications, contraindications and side effects

Cotripharm 480 is a combined antimicrobial agent produced in Russia at the Tyumen Chemical and Pharmaceutical Plant and in Malta by the Pharmamed company. It contains sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim and is available as 480 mg tablets.

Cotripharm 480 is used to treat various infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to it. It is effective for infections of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract (urethritis, cystitis, pyelonephritis), urogenital (gonorrhea, chancroid), gastrointestinal tract (bacterial diarrhea, shigellosis, cholera), skin and soft tissues (acne, furunculosis), ENT organs (otitis media, sinusitis, laryngitis), surgical infections, septicemia and meningitis.

However, before you start taking Cotripharm, you need to pay attention to contraindications. It should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to its components, hepatic or renal failure, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood (up to 2 months for oral administration and up to 6 years for parenteral administration) and hyperbilirubinemia in children.

Various side effects may occur when using Cotripharm. It can cause dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, cholestatic and necrotizing hepatitis, pseudomembranous enterocolitis, pancreatitis, stomatitis and glossitis. Agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, megaloblastic anemia, hypoprothrombinemia, methemoglobinemia, and eosinophilia are also possible. Taking Cotripharm can also cause crystalluria, renal failure, interstitial nephritis and toxic nephropathy with oliguria and anuria. Some patients may develop allergic reactions such as urticaria, rash, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, allergic myocarditis, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, Quincke's edema, itching and redness of the sclera.

Taking Cotripharm may interact with some other medications, such as antiepileptic drugs, methotrexate, digoxin, anticoagulants, diuretics, calcium supplements and other antibiotics, so before using Cotripharm you should consult your doctor and inform him about all medications you are taking.
