Lipoidosis of the Gall Bladder

Gallbladder lipoidosis is a rare disease characterized by the deposition of lipids in the wall of the gallbladder.

Causes

The causes of lipoidosis of the gallbladder are not completely clear. It is believed that lipid metabolism disorders play a major role. Risk factors include:

  1. Female

To exclude cholelithiasis, an MRI or CT scan of the abdominal cavity may be performed. A biochemical blood test is also recommended.

Treatment

No specific treatment for gallbladder lipoidosis has been developed. Correction of risk factors is recommended - treatment of obesity, diabetes, hypothyroidism. If symptoms are present, surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) may be required.

Forecast

The prognosis for lipoidosis of the gallbladder is generally favorable. With timely diagnosis and treatment, complications rarely develop. However, regular follow-up is required to monitor the condition of the gallbladder.
