Methylergobrevin is a stimulant of the uterine muscles. It works by increasing the tone and contraction of the smooth muscles of the uterus, which promotes rapid separation of the placenta and stops postpartum hemorrhage. This effect is achieved thanks to ergot alkaloids in the composition of the drug. MethylErgabrevin was used back in the 16th century to treat female infertility and regulate the menstrual cycle.
Contraindications to the use of MethylerGobrevin are pregnancy and allergies to its components. In addition, the drug may cause side effects from the gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system, such as nausea, vomiting and increased blood pressure. In case of overdose, seizures and other unpleasant symptoms may occur.
