The Military Sanitary Anti-Epidemic Detachment (VSPEO) is a specialized unit of the military medical service of the USSR Armed Forces during the Great Patriotic War.
VSPEO was created to combat epidemics in the active army and in the territory liberated from the enemy. They carried out sanitary, hygienic and anti-epidemic measures aimed at preventing the occurrence and spread of infectious diseases among active army personnel and the local population.
The tasks of VSPEO included: ensuring sanitary and epidemiological supervision, organizing and carrying out anti-epidemic and sanitary and hygienic measures, treating infectious patients, disinfection, disinfestation and deratization at military and civilian facilities.
