The tonsil is an unpaired process of the gingival (labial) groove, consisting of two arcuate parts (palatotonsil folds), which in turn are connected by two palatal bridges. It has both dense and loose fibrous tissue, which provides it with resistance to mechanical damage. It separates and closes the air opening of the nasopharynx with its wall and the oropharynx, protecting these cavities from damage and infection. The inside of the tonsil is lined from the inside with epithelium, forming a thin layer called lymphoid tissue. This tissue contains microscopic elements of the human lymphatic system, which perform protective functions. Lymph nodes located inside the tonsils (regional and retropharyngeal) respond to the penetration of pathogenic microorganisms or infections, neutralize them and destroy all foreign impurities. Along with lymphoceles, tonsils take part in the formation of immunity, creating conditions for the normal functioning of the body, and with a competent immune system, health in general. But there are also negative factors regarding tonsils. Here are some of them: – anatomy of the tonsils; – inflammatory processes in this area, accompanied by clinical manifestations of varying intensity; – anatomical defects or disturbances in the structure and structure of the organ or its tissues; - adenoids.
