Lapis poisoning

Lapis is a substance that is used to cauterize the throat for various diseases. However, sometimes during this procedure lapis can accidentally enter the body and cause severe poisoning.

If lapis gets ingested, it causes severe burns to the throat, stomach and intestines, accompanied by excruciating pain. It is necessary to urgently call a doctor for medical assistance.

Before the doctor arrives, you need to take the following first aid measures:

  1. Quickly dilute a tablespoon of table salt in a glass of water and give the victim a drink in one gulp.

  2. Give a second glass of salted water to drink so that the salt covers the lapis particles with an insoluble layer of silver chloride.

  3. Induce vomiting, as lapis can sometimes come out in the vomit.

  4. If the lapis does not come out with vomiting, give it raw egg white, after salting it.

  5. Then give milk and continue to drink salt water at short intervals to maintain the insolubility of lapis.

  6. Lapis must pass the feces.

If lapis was swallowed in solution, the treatment is the same. In addition, you need to give a tannin solution (1 teaspoon per glass of water) to neutralize the effect of lapis.

If you suspect lapis poisoning, it is extremely important to urgently call a doctor and, before his arrival, begin first aid according to the scheme described above. This will help prevent serious complications and save the life of the victim.
