Palatoplasty

Palatoplasty is a surgical operation aimed at restoring the integrity of the palate after injury, surgery, or removal of tumors. Surgery can restore damaged tissue and improve breathing. To do this, small defects are removed and space is created between the nose and palate to better supply the lungs with oxygen, for example, with a congenital short palate (more than a third of all newborns have it). Recently, new techniques have been widely used - laser and radiofrequency, they allow you to perform the operation with virtually no pain and without bleeding, leaving a small scar. Transplantation is also used for this purpose. Transplantation may be recommended for patients who are missing part of the palate due to disease or surgery. If a previous palate removal has not created enough space between the undersurface of the nose and the upper occlusion plane, then a partial or full graft may be required.
