Pio- (Ruo-)

Pio- (or Ruo-) is a prefix in Russian that gives words the meaning of repetition or renewal of action.

This prefix has variant spellings "pi-" and "roo-", which are used in different words.

The prefix "pio-" (or "pi-") is found in words such as:

  1. pioneer (one who leads the way, leads the way)
  2. piit (poet, inspired creator)
  3. food (what they eat, maintain strength)

The "ruo-" option is used less frequently, for example:

  1. ruotse (repetition of something)

In the periodic table of chemical elements, the symbol pi (π) and unit denote a physical constant - the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (3.14). It originated with the Egyptian priests.

Pio (ancient Greek πῖον) is a synonym for the word “beer”, “mead”. In alchemy and some languages, pio (pi) means "sulfur" (for example, in Portuguese). In ancient Greek, Arabic and Persian (Piō), Swedish (pio), Hungarian (pe) and Finnish (piä), the word is associated with one or another aspect of the bee as a living creature (in connection with the honey-bearing role of bees).

The word pi- could come from the designation of the finger as the point of insertion of the instrument when installing bridges, according to one version.
