Semicircular canals

The semicircular canal is an anatomical structure located in the pyramids of the temporal bones of each ear. It consists of three pairs of maculae, which are formed by semicircular canals. These three canals together are called the semicircular canal or simply semicircular canal. They are responsible for the sensation of movement (both rotational and linear) and balance of the body.
