Proptosis (Pmptosis)

Proptosis is a condition in which the eye protrudes noticeably forward, causing another cosmetic defect to appear - protrusion of the eyelid when the eye is opened. Scientifically, this disease is called “divergent strabismus.” The disease is not a disease, however, in civilized countries it is an aesthetic problem. If it bothers the patient, all specialists without exception decide on it, and if it creates inconvenience only for children, the child himself makes the decision.

Proptosis is a forward displacement of the eyeball, which can be determined independently using a mirror. It is necessary to take two mirrors so that one of them is located in front of the patient’s eyes. Looking at the reflection in the mirror, you can see that the pupil “looks” upward. When the patient smiles, the swelling of the muscles and eyelid pulls the eye towards the nose, so from the outside it seems as if the eye has almost climbed above the eyebrow. Over time, defects become more noticeable.
