Pseudopolymelia

Pseudopolymelia: what is it?

Pseudopolymelia is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the presence of extra or missing body parts. In most cases, this is due to a mutation in the genes that control the development of the embryo.

Pseudopolymelia may present with a variety of symptoms, including extra limbs, facial abnormalities, and changes to the skull or body as a whole. Some patients may have additional organs such as kidneys or heart.

Treatment for pseudopolymelia depends on the individual case and may include surgical correction or drug therapy. However, despite being a rare disease, it can have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients and their families.
