Cough reflex

Modern people do not think about what a cough is and why it is needed as such. In reality, this process serves as a constant assistant to a person when it is necessary to cleanse a person’s lungs of dust, mucus, gases and other negative substances. Experts call it the cough reflex.

In medical practice, there are two types of cough - wet and dry. To classify them, it is necessary to determine the consistency of sputum discharge from the lungs. If it is thick and viscous, they call it a dry cough; if it is thin, it is called a wet cough. A dry cough is most often provoked by a painful condition in the bronchi. As a rule, this process is accompanied by elevated body temperature, acute chest pain, profuse sweating, attacks of nausea and vomiting.

A wet cough in most cases is observed in patients with colds and is an indicator of acute inflammation of the respiratory system. Together with sputum, a pathogenic infection leaves the human body, which, if it remains in the respiratory system for a long time, can cause the development of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, tuberculosis and many other diseases.

The reflex itself arose a long time ago, because, in fact, our ancestors created it to combat drafts. There is another meaning - self-care.
