Sea scurvy is one of the most severe and common diseases that can be fatal. This disease is often called "sea fever".

Scurvy affects many maritime countries, especially Arctic ones. Scurvy is characterized by impaired blood supply to tissues and degeneration of the mucous membrane. The lips and mucous membranes of the mouth are especially affected, stomatitis and gingivitis develop, the papillae of the tongue and its anterior part become keratinized, and the teeth become loose.
