Stiff Person Syndrome

Stiff person's syndrome is a disease of unknown etiology, which is characterized by a progressive increase in muscle rigidity, mainly in the trunk muscles, and their painful spasms. This leads to limited mobility, primarily of the spine.

With stiff person syndrome, there is a gradual increase in the tone and tension of the muscles of the back and abdomen. This causes difficulty in bending the spine forward and to the sides. Mobility of the neck and limbs is also affected.

The causes of the syndrome are not completely clear. Presumably, it is based on disorders of neuromuscular impulse transmission and changes in the central nervous system. Risk factors include spinal injuries, poor posture, and overwork of the back muscles.

To treat stiff person syndrome, drug therapy for muscle spasms, physiotherapy, massage and physical therapy to relax and stretch muscles are used. It is important to start treatment as early as possible to prevent progression of the disease and disability of patients.

Stiff person syndrome is a mysterious condition that can lead to serious health and well-being problems. Many people suffering from this syndrome suffer from constant muscle tension, which leads to severe pain and loss of mobility. But what is Stiff Syndrome? It appears mainly in older people, and usually in combination with other diseases.

The syndrome is associated with a disruption in the functioning of the central nervous system; it does not allow the muscles to relax normally, so we cannot move normally. The syndrome manifests itself in disturbances in the movements of the entire body - from attempts to walk to ordinary everyday activities, it is almost always difficult for a person to relax
