Inguinal ligament

The inguinal ligament is one of the most important anatomical elements of the abdominal-lateral wall of the abdomen, which plays an important role in the functioning of the genitourinary system. The formation of the ligament occurs before 9 weeks of pregnancy, when the labia merge and form a single whole. It connects to the symphysis pubis to form the inguinal canal, which contains the spermatic cord in men and the fallopian tube in women. Present in both sexes and at birth often present in the inguinofemoral position.

The ligament is a dense bundle of fibrous tissue that is attached to the pubic bone along its entire length and limits the free space in the pelvic area. Inside the bundle there are vessels of different thicknesses, arteries, lymph nodes and musculocutaneous fascia
