Toxoplasmosis

In the case of acute infection, a picture of acute purulent meningoencephalitis develops, and in newborns a fatal outcome may occur as a result of a generalized infection. In the absence of specific treatment, the observed mortality rate is about 50%. With a prolonged course with frequent relapses, the risk of cerebral complications and premature death in children increases. In immunocompromised patients, the severity of symptoms may vary. Acute or chronic infection is not detected by laboratory methods until clinically significant infection occurs.
