Perineal hernia

Perineal hernia is a disease that can occur in women and men at any age. It is characterized by the protrusion of internal organs through the pelvic diaphragm and their descent into the perineum.

Hernias that develop in the groin areas can be caused by a number of reasons, for example, weakening of connective tissue or prolonged physical activity. More complex are prolapses of internal organs directly through the pelvic openings into the small pelvis, such as a hernia of the liver, ovary, or appendix. This type also includes the so-called congenital forms of hernias. A congenital hernia (intestinal loop) is usually detected in the prenatal period. During the birth of a pregnant woman, the uterus, along with other organs, can be pushed aside by a loop of intestine. Such a child requires surgical treatment. It is believed that approximately 5% of women aged 40-45 years experience perineal syndrome. This condition occurs when the ligaments around the muscles in the perineal area weaken, causing the muscles to drop below their normal locations. Even more often (including in men), prolapse of the rectum through the perineum is observed - a rectal hernia. The most common cause of development is obesity, childbirth, constipation and stressful situations, which lead to increased intra-abdominal pressure. The most serious form of the disease is a pelvic hernia, which affects the bladder, rectum and urethra. This disease can lead to urinary and fecal incontinence, as well as loss of sensation in the lower body. Treatment of a perineal hernia includes a set of measures depending on the severity of the disease and the patient’s condition. Abnormalities during pregnancy are always resolved surgically immediately after childbirth. At the same time, starting from the first decade of life, bandages for newborns can be used. Older children definitely need surgery. Abdominal surgical interventions are absolutely safe and do not lead to the development of complications, because... Children and young adults whose hernia has just begun to manifest itself are rarely mature enough to suffer from multiple organ failure and septic complications. Prevention – pregnancy should take place in a specialized medical center.
