Vermakar

Vermakar: an effective remedy for intestinal helminthiases

Vermakar is a drug produced by the Israeli company Pharmakar and used to treat various types of intestinal helminthiases. The main active ingredient is mebendazole, which has an anthelmintic effect.

The drug is available in two dosage forms: 100 mg tablets and 100 mg oral suspension. Depending on the severity of the disease and the age of the patient, the doctor can choose the most appropriate dosage.

Instructions for use of Vermakar indicate a wide range of indications for its use, including enterobiasis, ascariasis, hookworm disease, strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, multiple nematodes, echinococcosis, taeniasis, alveococcosis, capillariasis, gnathostomiasis, trichinosis and mixed helminthiasis.

However, like any other drug, Vermakar has its contraindications and side effects. The drug is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to mebendazole, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, liver dysfunction, increased activity of aminotransferases, alkaline phosphatase and blood urea, decreased hemoglobin levels, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.

Side effects that may occur as a result of taking Vermakar may include dizziness, headache, gastrointestinal dysfunction, neutropenia, hair loss (at high doses), allergic reactions such as fever, skin rash and itching.

Possible interactions of Vermakar with other drugs should also be taken into account. Carbamazepine and other metabolic inducers can reduce the concentration of mebendazole in tissues, and cimetidine, on the contrary, increase it. Co-administration of mebendazole with lipophilic substances should be avoided.

In case of an overdose of Vermakar, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and pain in the gastrointestinal tract may occur. With long-term use in high doses, reversible liver dysfunction, hepatitis and neutropenia are possible. Treatment in such cases should be timely and consist of gastric lavage, enemas and activated charcoal. There is no specific antidote.

In general, Vermakar is an effective and widely used drug for the treatment of intestinal helminthiasis. However, its use requires caution and only under the supervision of a physician, taking into account possible contraindications, side effects and interactions with other drugs. If any unpleasant symptoms occur while taking Vermakar, you should immediately consult a doctor for consultation and treatment adjustment.
