Visit to the Andrologist

Visit to the Andrologist

As you know, men do not like to go to doctors. Especially if the disease concerns the intimate sphere. But today such attitude towards one’s health is becoming a thing of the past. Who should a man turn to if he feels unwell, and how much will treatment cost him?

Special doctors - andrologists - deal with men's health. They treat all diseases of the male reproductive system, as well as sexual dysfunction. It is recommended to undergo preventive examination by an andrologist 2-3 times a year. An initial consultation with an andrologist in Moscow clinics costs from 300 to 1000 rubles, a repeat visit - 200–350 rubles. Prescribing a treatment regimen and managing uncomplicated sexually transmitted infections by a doctor will cost 500–1500 rubles, but if complications arise, the price increases, sometimes more than 10 times.

The most common diseases of the male genital area are inflammatory diseases, prostate adenoma, erectile dysfunction (impotence) and male infertility. Currently, medicine has developed very effective methods for treating all these problems.

Prostatitis

Prostatitis probably causes the most trouble for men. From 30 to 85% of men over 25 years of age suffer from this disease. Often prostatitis is practically asymptomatic, and a man may not suspect that he is sick for a long time. But at any time under unfavorable conditions (hypothermia, prolonged sexual abstinence, stress) an exacerbation can occur.

Chronic prostatitis, as a rule, leads to the development of vesiculitis - inflammation of the seminal vesicles, epididymo-orchitis - inflammation of the testicles and their appendages. The consequence is infertility, impotence, premature ejaculation.

Prevention of prostatitis is mandatory for every man after 30 years of age and consists of following simple rules:

  1. Avoid hypothermia and, first of all, do not sit on a cold surface.

  2. Have sex regularly (according to various sources, at least 100 times a year).

  3. Lead an active lifestyle (to avoid congestion in the pelvic area) - walking, playing sports.

  4. Follow a diet (limit alcohol intake, spicy, fried and canned foods).

  5. Be examined by an andrologist once or twice a year.

Inflammatory diseases

Inflammatory genitourinary diseases occupy first place among urological diseases. They are one of the causes of infertility, impotence, sexual dysfunction, and tumors.

Common signs of inflammation are redness, pain, swelling of the mucous membranes, uncharacteristic discharge from the urethra, itching or irritation, dysfunction of the reproductive system.

In men, doctors distinguish inflammation of the prostate gland - prostatitis, the urethra - urethritis, the bladder - cystitis, the head and inner layer of the foreskin - balanoposthitis, the testicles - orchitis, the epididymis - epididymitis. Among sexually transmitted infections, special mention should be made of syphilis, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, ureaplasmosis, candidiasis, and gardnerellosis. Any of these infections can cause prostatitis.

To diagnose inflammatory diseases, a number of tests will be required:

  1. Ultrasound examination (ultrasound) of the prostate gland and genitourinary system.

  2. Urine analysis in three portions.

  3. Microscopic examination of the secretion secreted by the prostate gland.

  4. Urethroscopy.

  5. DNA diagnosis of major sexually transmitted infections.

  6. Bacterial culture for conditionally pathogenic flora with determination of sensitivity to antibiotics.

  7. Blood test using ELISA method.

  8. Microscopic examination of a smear from the urethra.

  9. Prostate antigen (PSA) test.

Prostate adenoma

Prostate adenoma is the growth of gland tissue and the appearance of benign neoplasms (tumors, “nodes”) in it.

To make a diagnosis and properly prescribe treatment, the urologist palpates the prostate gland through the rectum (digital rectal examination). Kr
