Vaginal Process of the Peritoneum

The vaginal process of the abdominal cavity, or vagina of the peritoneum (lat. Processus vaginalis, NOS), is an extension of the anterior half (loop) of the sigmoid colon, which passes between the bladder and the pubic symphysis, covering the upper part of the pubic bones. This is a rare congenital intestinal malformation. It can be obstructive (in 60% of cases) and non-obstructive. The most common cause is atresia, diverticula, hypoplasia (change in shape or size), etc.
