English scientists have invented a test that allows them to calculate the number of viable eggs that a woman’s body is capable of producing in the future, reports BBC News. Thus, every woman will be able to know exactly how long she is capable of conceiving a child.
This test, called the "fertility clock", measures hormone levels - indicators of female fertility. The content of two of them, produced by the ovaries, decreases as menopause approaches. The level of the third hormone produced by the brain, on the contrary, increases. As the author of the test, Professor Bill Ledger from the University of Sheffield, notes, we must not forget that the production of eggs is only one of the factors in the female body’s ability to conceive.
In women with various gynecological diseases that prevent natural pregnancy, this test may not be effective.
The emergence of an unusual test is especially relevant since recently more and more couples are deciding to have children at a later age. It will be useful for them to know how much time they have to have offspring.
